The popular Port de Sóller, with its natural harbour in the Tramuntana mountain range is especially well known due to its nostalgic railway, which from the centre of palma and via the town of Sóller (7km away) leads directly to the small harbour town.
The harbour of Soller is the only shielded natural harbour on the west coast of the Tramuntana mountain range between Puerto Andratx and Pollença, and therefore has made the municipality of Sóller the most important town in the region.
In comparison to other Mallorquin coastal towns, Port de Sóller with its 2724 residents (as of 2007) looks back on a long history and is not a typical tourism-orientated town. Port de Sóller’s town centre is made up of the harbour’s structures, which date back to the 18th century.
The surrounding country side is coined by the local agriculture and charms one with its citrus-fruits, almonds and olive trees.
